BAME

Swansea BAME Hub of Culture

RCC worked with Swansea Council on the City of Culture bid initiative to encourage and facilitate the inclusion of the views of ethnic minority communities in Swansea. This has led to a partnership of 15 ethnic minority grassroots groups in Swansea with growing engagement from other groups British Red Cross, South West Wales Fire & Rescue, South Wales Police, Volcano Theatre, Swansea City of Sanctuary, SCVS etc. with a view to establishing a Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Hub of Culture in Swansea. Our idea is to bring together a range of diverse community groups in one place in the heart of Swansea so that mainstream organisations can easily engage with BAME grassroots such as:

the Chinese in Wales Association, African Community Centre, Thai Community, Bangladeshi Community, Black History Network Wales, Turkish Community, Palestinian Community, Jewish Community etc. This will be the first initiative of its kind in Wales and will be a fantastic opportunity for promoting community cohesion and co-production.

We also aim to have a digital inclusion centre that is funded by the National Lottery Awards for All to enable elderly and young BAME people to access IT lessons free of charge. The HUB will benefit community groups in Swansea and will be open to all. This will be a cross-collaborative masterpiece!
