About the Grant

Celebrating 78 Years of the Windrush Generation in Wales

Race Council Cymru, led by Windrush Cymru Elders, administers this Welsh Government small grant scheme for the fifth consecutive year. Grants are assessed and awarded by members of the Windrush generation, with Welsh Government observing the process.

National Windrush Day (22 June) honours those who arrived from the Caribbean and Commonwealth between 1948 and 1971. 2026 marks the 9th National Windrush Day in Wales. We invite eligible organisations to apply and help celebrate this important day in your community.

Eligibility

Who Can Apply?

  • Based and working in Wales
  • Registered charity, CIC, or constituted group
  • Can plan, deliver and report on events
  • Engages Windrush Generation and Commonwealth nationals
  • Can evidence understanding of Windrush
  • Governance and safeguarding policies in place
Funding Criteria

What Must Your Project Achieve?

Applications are assessed on quality (75%) and cost (25%). Your project must align with at least one of the following:

Raise awareness of National Windrush Day and promote positive messages about the Windrush generation.

Promote the historical, economic and cultural contributions of the Windrush generation to Wales.

03

Provide education or training around the Windrush generation and their contributions to Wales.

04

Demonstrate direct benefit to Windrush generation elders and explain how they will be involved.

05

Link your activity to the Anti-racist Wales Action Plan.

All funded events must credit Welsh Government as funder and display their logo.

How to Apply

Three Steps to Apply

  1. Get the form

    Download below (English and Welsh), or email [email protected] to request a copy.

  2. Complete in full

    Fill in all sections including your activity description, beneficiaries, how it meets the Windrush objectives, and a financial breakdown.

  3. Submit by the deadline

    Email to [email protected] by Monday 4 May 2026 at 11:59 pm. Late applications cannot be accepted.

Assessment

Assessed by the Community

Applications are reviewed by an independent panel of Windrush Elders and Commonwealth Nationals, with Welsh Government observing. Successful applicants will receive an award offer letter by email.

Funding Schedule

How Funding is Paid

75%
Paid upfront

On receipt of your signed award offer letter and any further evidence requested.

25%
Paid on completion

Released on satisfactory assessment of your final completion report, due by Friday 30 October 2026 at midnight.

Completion report requirements

Your report must include: images and video from the event, social media posts, event posters showing the Welsh Government logo, audience and participant evaluation, and equalities data.
