On Tuesday, 14th November, 2023, Alexandra Gardens in Cardiff served as a poignant backdrop for a solemn and heartfelt Memorial Service honouring the sacrifices of our Minority Ethnic and Commonwealth Servicemen and Women. The service commenced at 9:30am uniting communities in remembrance and gratitude for the brave individuals who fought and continue to serve in our force today.

The event, graced by notable dignitaries and leaders, was a testament to the enduring spirit and courage of those who selflessly dedicated their lives to serve our nation. The act of laying wreaths held immense significance, with Lord Lieutenant Meredith Morfudd, Minister Jane Hutt CBE, along with organisation and community leaders paying homage to the fallen heroes.

Patti Flynn and Betty Campbell, among other esteemed heroes were remembered and honoured during the ceremony as their bravery and sacrifices deeply revered.

The participation of St Paul’s Primary school and Howardian school added a touching dimension to the service as young voices recited poignant recitals and shared stories of these gallant fallen heroes, ensuring their legacy lives on.

As we reflect on their sacrifices and noble service, we say thank you to the Welsh Government, Cardiff Council, Royal Commonwealth Society of Wales, Army in Wales, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, Black Police Association, Royal British Legion, and everyone who contributed in making the memories of our heroes and sheroes resonate in our hearts and Nation’s history.
