Race Council Cymru (RCC) have recently been awarded a grant by National Lottery Heritage Fund for our Windrush Project entitled, “Windrush Cymru – Our Voices, Our Stories, Our History”. This project will enable us collect the stories of our Windrush Generation migrants as part of the historic legacy of Wales.
While recent media coverage has raised awareness of the Windrush Generation, most people know little of who they are or what they achieved in Wales. Many do not know exactly how many settled in Wales and what their impact has been. This project will address these issues.
We are seeking to recruit a Heritage Officer and an Administrator to collect the stories of Windrush migrants and their families. The project will map where they came from, what they did there, what they did when they arrived in Wales and how this impacted on the culture and economy of Wales.
We acknowledge and thank with deepest respect, our Windrush Elders who told us they wanted to tell their stories and record for posterity their experiences of coming to Wales at the invitation of the UK government to help repair the war torn Britain.
Job purpose
The Admin Assistant will support the implementation of the Windrush Cymru – Our Voices, Our Stories, Our History project. This project is financially supported with funding from, primarily, the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) and from National Museum Wales and the Wales Millennium Centre.
