Black History Wales 365 is Race Council Cymru’s year-round programme celebrating Black history, heritage, creativity and the contributions of Black communities across Wales through artistic, cultural, educational and community activity.

We are recruiting two roles to help shape and deliver the programme from September 2026: a Creative Director to provide artistic vision and strategic leadership, and a Project Manager to coordinate delivery across Wales alongside our Regional Leaders.

Role 1 · Creative Director

The Role

Race Council Cymru is seeking an experienced Creative Director to provide strategic artistic leadership for the Black History Wales 365 programme from September 2026 to July 2027. We are seeking an inspiring and collaborative Creative Director who can provide artistic vision and strategic leadership while supporting and mentoring creatives and community leaders involved in delivering the programme across Wales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic artistic leadership and creative direction for Black History Wales 365
  • Help shape a coherent and ambitious artistic programme across Wales
  • Work collaboratively with Race Council Cymru, Regional Leaders and programme partners
  • Support and mentor artists, creatives and community leaders
  • Help develop artistic ideas that authentically reflect Black histories, cultures and contemporary experiences in Wales
  • Encourage high quality, inclusive and innovative creative practice
  • Support connections and collaboration between artists, communities and cultural organisations
  • Contribute to the development and legacy of the wider Black History Wales programme
  • Help ensure artistic activity reflects Race Council Cymru’s commitment to equality, representation and community participation

Who We Are Looking For

We are particularly interested in hearing from experienced creative practitioners, artistic directors, producers, curators and cultural leaders with a strong track record of artistic leadership and collaborative practice.

Experience of working with Black communities, culturally diverse communities and/or community-led arts programmes in Wales would be highly valuable.

Role Details

Contract period September 2026 to July 2027
Commitment 520 hours across the contract period

Role 2 · Project Manager

The Role

Race Council Cymru is recruiting a Black History Wales 365 Project Manager to support the delivery of our year-round programme of artistic, cultural and community activity across Wales. We are looking for an organised, proactive and collaborative Project Manager who will work alongside Regional Leaders across Wales to coordinate and support delivery of the programme from September 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinating the delivery of artistic and cultural activities across Wales
  • Working closely with Regional Leaders, artists, creatives and community partners
  • Supporting programme planning, scheduling and administration
  • Coordinating communications between project partners and stakeholders
  • Monitoring project activity, outputs and progress
  • Supporting the collection of evaluation, participation and impact information
  • Helping ensure activities are delivered effectively, inclusively and within agreed timescales
  • Supporting the wider Race Council Cymru team with the successful delivery of Black History Wales 365

Who We Are Looking For

We welcome applications from individuals with experience in project management, arts and cultural programmes, community engagement, events or related fields.

An understanding of Wales’ diverse communities and a commitment to equality, representation and inclusive cultural practice would be particularly valuable.

Contract September 2026 to end of August 2027
Hours 12 hours per week
Rate £15 per hour
Location Wales, with work alongside Regional Leaders across the country
